I went to see Cut Hands’ live show this weekend. I had to. Because, you know… i heard the album (which is incredible).
The show is easy to describe : William Bennett wears a classy and dark suit, and stands behind his two laptops. He seems to be doing things while images from the album’s artwork and from the ‘ethnofiction’ “les maitres fous” are projected on a screen. So there’s not really much happening. Still, i had a great time.
Cut Hands’ music doesn’t need much to be enjoyed. You just have to let you drown in this incredibly powerful and hypnotic flow of noise sounds and afro percussions. That’s where the live show was helpful to me : A bigger and better audio system than mine, and the fact that W. Bennett mixes the songs together so that the hypnotic state you’re put into (or was it trance ? hence “les maitres fous”) never diminishes. Basically i think experiencing this is what this music is meant for. Either live or on cd, both succeed at it. The live thing just makes it easier. Recommended (ayo boomkat!).
